Future medical benefits of stem cells from the umbilical cord blood

The potential of these stem cells is remarkable; experts reckon that it will be possible in the future to treat strokes, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s with stem cells, as well as chronic wounds, burns and injuries to the spine. Stem cells are already used to treat severe diseases

In the course of one's life it can happen that the stem cells in a person's body are no longer capable of performing their repair tasks, whether due to disease, accident or age. This calls for stem cell therapy: New vital stem cells are administered to activate the repair mechanism again.

Increasingly more and more children are being treated

Since 2000, the number of applications of the body's own stem cells from the umbilical cord blood has significantly increased. In 2009 more than 100 children were treated with their own umbilical cord blood stem cells. By comparison: In 1999 only one child was treated.

Via research partnerships, Vita 34 contributes to extending the possiblities for applications of umbilical cord blood. Since the autumn of 2008, together with the Technical University of Munich we are performing a diabetes study in which ailing children are treated with their own umbilical cord blood.
