Quality means more for us than “just” a proper storage of the blood of the umbilical cord of your child. To have the best possible transplant available in the event of use, we have invested lots of experience, time and energy in the development of reliable materials and processes.

 

For maximum safety during withdrawal and transport of the umbilical cord blood, Vita 34 has developed its own blood packet. This includes all utensils required for the withdrawal of umbilical cord blood in the hospital. Furthermore, it serves as a storage and transport container after withdrawal and for the transport from the maternity clinic to our laboratory in Leipzig.

 

The umbilical cord blood is ideally transported at a temperature of 18 to 26°C. An integrated measuring chip monitors this electronically during the entire time of transport.

 

TÜV Süd (South German TÜV) confirms: The Vita 34 blood packet, at extreme temperatures of up to 40°C, as can occur in summer in the interior of transport vehicles, is far better than the packet of an other German provider. For you as expecting parents, this means greater assurance that your child's umbilical cord blood arrives at our laboratory in perfect condition - even if your child is born several hundred kilometres away.

 

An important component of the blood packet is the withdrawal kit - also developed by us. This set consists of a special blood bag, which is filled with an anticoagulation substance. The quantity of this substance is optimised for the collection of blood of the umbilical cord, meaning that an accidental overdosage can mostly be avoided. The collection set is vapour sterilised and can therefore also be used operating theatres in the event of caesarean births. Our developers have also ensured safe transport conditions: the set consists of a particularly breathable material and protects the valuable goods until arriving at our laboratory.

 

 

 

For the blood of the umbilical cord to quickly and safely arrive at our stem cell laboratory from all over Germany, Austria and Switzerland after collection, we cooperate with a special courier, who is available 365 days a year around the clock and knows and observes the special transport conditions exactly. This means that the blood of the umbilical cord is mostly transported and stored with us after birth than is required by the guidelines.

 

Already before birth, we ensure with a detailed anamnesis of the family that the blood of the umbilical cord is suitable for later use. In doing so, we check the health history of the parents to be and the grandparents as well as the risk factors during pregnancy. Because the actual collection of blood of the umbilical cord does not always make medical sense or is possible under legal provisions. Certain prior diseases of the mother and within the family unfortunately do not allow using the blood of the umbilical cord for treatment.

For every preparation from blood of the umbilical cord, in-depth quality tests are carried out. These include, for instance, examinations of the mother’s blood and the determination of the quantity and quality of the cells in the blood of the umbilical cord or tests for bacteria, fungi and viruses.
